FAQs Blevit cereals
When should I begin complementary feeding?
Complementary feeding should begin at around five or six months of age (preferably at six months in the case of exclusively breastfed infants).
In what order should I introduce food products in complementary feeding?
The order for introducing foods may vary according to the needs of each child. Your pediatrician or nurse will inform you of the best order. In general, most babies begin with cereals, others with fruits, and in some cases, babies begin consuming these two food groups almost simultaneously.
To detect possible allergies, it is important to keep in mind that different foods should be introduced individually and in 3-5 day intervals.
When is the right time to start eating solid food?
This varies from case to case, depending on a baby's teeth and appetite, etc. However, by the time babies reach 12 months of age, they tend to eat practically everything, from purées and liquid foods like soup, to bread and cookies/crackers that are nibbled on. This is the time to stop pureeing food so babies can get used to chewing, even if certain foods are still pureed.
When and how should I introduce gluten?
Gluten-free cereals can be introduced as of the age of four months (if the pediatrician considers it necessary), and in an amount that completes a purée or by adding scoops to bottles. Cereals with gluten should be gradually introduced in small amounts (a scoop periodically added to gluten-free cereals or to fruit, or a small piece of a cookie/cracker or bread that the child may nibble on and eat).
What does it mean when baby cereals are dextrinized or hydrolyzed?
The terms "dextrinized cereal" and "hydrolyzed cereal" mean exactly the same thing. Dextrinization or hydrolysis is an industrial process that breaks down the starch chains of cereals so they are easier for infants to digest. Babies have immature digestive tracts and they are unable to properly tolerate cereals that have not been hydrolyzed.
The difference between certain cereal purées is the degree of dextrinization. If the degree of dextrinization is low, the digestive assimilation of the nutrients in cereals is low and the density is high (they are harder to dissolve and less homogeneous when prepared), so they are not very suitable for feeding a baby that is only a few months old. On the other hand, if the degree of dextrinization is very high, purées will have a lower density (they are much more liquid), but from a digestive perspective, they are not highly recommended because they do not help stimulate the maturation of a baby's gastrointestinal tract, which is very important during this period.
In Blevit purées, cereals have been dextrinized through an exclusive enzymatic hydrolysis system so they adapt to an infant's digestive maturation for optimal nutrition. This means that their tolerance and acceptability are excellent.

In case you have any doubt, please consult your pediatrician.
Up to what age can cereal purées be fed to children?
Many mothers include cereal purées in their children's breakfast until they reach school age. Although the main application of these products is to feed infants during their first year of life, until their diets are diversified and foods with a greater consistency and caloric value are introduced, cereal purées are an excellent breakfast alternative for any age.
From a nutritional perspective, cereals are an excellent source of nutrients and they can be included in the breakfast, afternoon snack or dinner of young children since there is no maximum age limit for their consumption.
Therefore, there is no need to limit the use of Blevit cereal purées to infants. Instead, their high nutritional value means that they can help provide a balanced diet for up to preschool or school age children.
What type of infant formula is best for preparing Blevit cereal purées?
Blevit purées can be prepared using infant formula (Blemil plus 1), follow-up formula (Blemil plus 2 or Blemil plus 3), depending on the milk that the infant is consuming at the time.
